This month I have been invited to participate in a masterclass in Reggio Emilia with Stefano Gervasoni, which has been a truly refreshing and inspiring experience. My first encounter with Stefano was a year ago at the VIPA Festival in Valencia, where we spent several days together in a relaxed and engaging Spanish atmosphere, and seeing him again in Reggio was a truly pleasant experience.
In Reggio, I also had the pleasure of reconnecting with my good friend and fellow composer, Brooks Clarke, whom I also first met in Valencia, as well as discovering many talented new composers. For this masterclass, I was asked to compose the opening of a piece for piano, violin, cello, and clarinet. I put together about one and a half minutes of music, which was then performed by the Icarus vs Muzak ensemble.
Witnessing a new piece come to life is always a unique and thrilling moment, and this was no exception. I was particularly impressed by the Icarus vs Muzak ensemble, their dedication to contemporary music and their seriousness in approaching new works, which left a lasting impression on me. One of the most valuable aspects of these experiences with other composers is the endlessly stimulating exchange of ideas and perspectives on music, which always leaves a lasting mark.
I want to thank Stefano for his invaluable insights and for making this experience so special. My gratitude also goes to Marco Longo for organizing such a fantastic event.
These moments of artistic exchange and collaboration are what keep the creative spirit alive, and I am grateful to have been part of this one.
